In the last month of winter, the United States bought the largest amount of platinum from Russia in the past four months. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing U.S. Customs data.

The transaction amounted to $91.8 million. Notably, imports of this precious metal into the U.S. have increased for three consecutive months, with a 8.3% rise in February. As a result, Russia managed to retain its position as the second-largest supplier of platinum to the American market.

South Africa remained in first place, increasing supplies to $364.2 million, while Italy took third place, with its exports to the U.S. surging 7.3 times to nearly $55 million.

Meanwhile, the U.S. significantly reduced platinum purchases from India (a 25-fold decrease), the United Kingdom (a sevenfold drop), Belgium (a fourfold decline), and Japan (a twofold reduction).

Overall, U.S. platinum imports fell by 6% in February, reaching $684.9 million.

Earlier reports indicated that supplies of platinum group metals to China declined in 2024, dropping by 52.1% to $900.2 million. However, China increased purchases of Russian palladium and nickel.
