Japan expanded imports of non-ferrous metals from Russia

In April 2025, economic relations between Japan and Russia showed positive dynamics. The total trade volume between the two countries increased by 2.48% compared to the same period last year, reaching a mark of 87.713 billion yen, equivalent to about 607.6 million US dollars. These data are presented in a report by Japan's Ministry of Finance.

Total imports of goods from Russia to Japan showed an increase of 5.6 percent, reaching 57.177 billion yen, equivalent to about 396.5 million U.S. dollars. In addition to an increase in coal purchases, Japan has significantly expanded its imports of non-ferrous metals (by 206%) compared to April 2024, and they now account for 15.3% of total imports from Russia.
