In the first quarter, stainless steel production in the Russian Federation decreased by 12.1%
According to the report of the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) ‘On the Socio-Economic Situation of Russia’, the metallurgical production index in the Russian Federation for March 2025 was 97.9% year-on-year, down from 97.2% in the first quarter.
Production of unalloyed steel in ingots/other primary forms and semi-finished products in March decreased by 4.4% year-on-year to 4.8 million tonnes, with an 8.6% improvement on the previous month. YTD production was down 2.6% to 13.8 million tonnes.
Stainless steel in ingots/other primary forms and semi-finished products were produced in 23.6 thousand tonnes, down 15.2% year-on-year and up 6.4% on February. In January-March the volumes decreased by 12.1%.
March production of other alloy steel in ingots/other primary forms and semi-finished products from it totalled 1.3 million tonnes, up 10.9% on February and down 5.1% year-on-year. For the first quarter of 2025, the reduction was 10%.
Russian steelmakers produced 5 million tonnes of finished rolled products in March, down 6.9% year-on-year and up 10.4% on the previous month. Since the beginning of the year, the volumes decreased by 5.2% to 14.4 million tonnes, according to Rosstat data.
