South Korea bought a record $126.4 million worth of aluminum from Russia

Russian companies in mid-spring sold 46 thousand tons of unprocessed aluminum to the South Korean markinet for $126.4 million, which is about twice as much as a year earlier in both physical and monetary terms.

Since the beginning of this year, South Korea has purchased 148.2 thousand tons of aluminum from Russia, which is a quarter more than last year's level. The revenue from these supplies amounted to 411 million dollars against 275 million dollars in January-April 2024.

Russia became the main supplier of aluminum to the local market in the first four months, which increased its presence in the market to 28% of all South Korean imports from 21% over the year. The second place was occupied by Australia, whose companies, on the contrary, lost share in local purchases - to 24% from 29%. The top three was rounded out by India, which this year takes only 12% instead of last year's 14% of South Korean imports.

Overall, South Korea imported 520.3 thousand tons of aluminum in January-April, down 5% from the same period last year. At the same time, the expenditures on these purchases increased - by 15% and amounted to 1.5 billion dollars.
