Industrial routes and career-oriented excursions developed by Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (PJSC MMK) have been included in the international industrial tourism guidebook of the Union State of Russia and Belarus. Titled “Two Countries, a Thousand Factories”, the book was published by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research.

The publication features the most popular and educational tours to leading enterprises in Russia and Belarus. Over 50 companies are categorized into 15 thematic tracks spanning various industries—from metallurgy and engineering to medical and food production. The guidebook also includes methodologies for developing industrial tourism and analytical insights summarizing the two countries’ shared expertise.

MMK, a recognized leader in Russia’s industrial tourism sector, has been advancing this field since 2016. To date, 61,500 guests from across the country have witnessed firsthand the process of metal production and industrial life at MMK. More than 24,000 schoolchildren, college students, and university students have learned about the history of the legendary “Magnitka” (MMK’s nickname) and the present-day operations of one of the world’s largest steel plants. So far, MMK specialists have conducted approximately 3,800 tours, including a dedicated route for people with disabilities.

Building on its extensive experience, MMK initiated the creation of a Center of Competence for Industrial Tourism Development in Magnitogorsk. The center designs tour programs and promotes best practices by training guides, industry-specific company managers, and specialists from municipal and regional administrations. Through this effort, MMK supports the implementation of the “Open Industry” program, overseen by Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.
