Russia’s coal production in January-April 2025 increased by 2.4% compared to the same period a year earlier, reaching 147 mln tonnes, according to data from the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). Production of all types of hard coal rose by 1.1% to 112 mln tonnes. Anthracite production declined by 2.4% to 7.5 mln tonnes, while coking coal production fell by 8% to 34.7 million tonnes. Mechel cuts coal production by 17% in Q1 to 2.13 mln tons

Mechel’s coal production fell by 17% to 2.13 mln tons in January-March 2025 and increased steel production by 14% to 863,000 tons, the company said in a statement. Russia has enough coal reserves to last it over 500 years

Russia is sitting on coal reserves that will last it more than 500 years, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak wrote in an article for Energy Policy magazine. Russia proposes measures to India for developing coal export
