Russia could double copper production in 15 years
Russia will be able to double copper production in 15 years through the implementation of a number of current and prospective projects, and copper will always be needed - it is the most sought-after metal in the green energy sector, said Oleg Kazanov, Head of Rosnedra, in an interview with RIA Novosti ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
According to him, everything is "quite good" with copper in Russia. The country has about 100 million tons of reserves, 1.1 million tons of annual production and about 200 thousand of domestic consumption. Due to the remaining volumes Russia is already a major exporter of copper.
The Head of Rosnedra noted that several large projects are "off to a low start," including the Malmyzhskoye deposit in Khabarovsk Krai and the Baimskoye deposit in Chukotka.
