Russia again extends ban on exports of precious metal scrap, waste

The temporary ban on exporting precious metal scrap and waste from Russia has been extended for another six months and will remain in effect until November 30, 2025, the government's press service said.

The decision will help increase the workload of Russian refining enterprises, it said.

For the duration of the restrictions, Russia will not export scrap and waste of precious metals or metals plated with precious metals, as well as other scrap and waste containing precious metals or their compounds. The export of scrap and waste from electrical and electronic equipment primarily used for precious metal recovery will also be suspended.

As before, the ban will not apply to exports of antimony cathodes in ingots, as well as samples taken from batches of precious metal scrap and waste exported by refining organizations. The weight of a single sample must not exceed 500 grams per commercial batch, regardless of the number of such batches under a foreign trade contract.

Similar temporary restrictions have been introduced since 2022, with the latest one in effect from December 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025.
