Norilsk Nickel and BASF signed a new long-term supply agreement

Norilsk Nickel and global chemical industry leader BASF have announced the signing of a large-scale, long-term agreement for the supply of platinum group metals (PGMs).

Under terms of the agreement, Norilsk Nickel will deliver PGMs to BASF for use in the production of automotive emissions control catalysts and select chemical catalysts. Additional contract details are not being disclosed.

The contract document was signed on June 23, 2015, at Norilsk Nickel’s Head Office in Moscow by Sergey Batekhin, Vice President, MMC Norilsk Nickel and Head of Sales, Commerce & Logistics, and Kenneth Lane, President of BASF’s global Catalysts division.

"We are pleased that our solid, deep-rooted relationship with BASF continues to reach new levels of cooperation. Our partnership with one of the world's largest high-technology PGM processors is a proud achievement for Norilsk Nickel,” said Sergey Batekhin.

"This new contract builds on a large-scale precious metals supply agreement established between our companies in January 2014,” said Kenneth Lane. “BASF and Norilsk Nickel, as leaders in our respective industries, have demonstrated a unique ability to work together to achieve shared goals, which will benefit BASF’s mobile emissions and chemical catalysts customers well into the future.”

In addition to the contract signing event, representatives of BASF will met with Vladimir Potanin, President of Norilsk Nickel, to celebrate the deal and discuss future business opportunities between the respective companies.
