Norilsk Nickel will reduce production of copper in Russia
In 2009 Norilsk Nickel reduced revenues by almost 18% (in rubles), but showed a profit of $ 2 billion. Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, General Director of MMC Norilsk Nickel explained in an interview to "Kommersant" that the situation rapidly improved because of the conditions of the main markets, stressing that the company managed to pay off creditors in time and it didn't have to economize too much. But this year, Norilsk Nickel need to pay $ 3 billion to the banks in 2,5 times more than in 2009.
As to production plans for 2010, the russian enterprises of Norilsk Nickel should produce 234 thousand tonnes of nickel, about 363 thousand tonnes of copper, up to 20 tonnes of platinum, up to 75 tonnes of palladium. "At the russian enterprises of the company production will be reduced only by copper - by 5%", said Vladimir Strzhalkovsky.
