MMK will increase manufacture of commercial products in 2010

In 2010 Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works plans on increasing manufacture of commercial products by 28% to 11.2 mln tons. According to E. Kovtunov, MMK production will exceed 12 mln tons. Growth of production in 2010 will be achieved mainly due to Mill 500 reaching its design capacity and operating polymer coatings line N2, commissioned in July 2009. Growth in production will be ensured due to increased charge of long products facilities, however, the total long products manufacture is planned to be lower as compared of the total manufacture of 2008. MMK will focus on rare high conversion types of rolled products. The share of such type of products will increase from 28% in 2009 to 36% in 2010. In the 4th quarter MMK plans to maintain production at the level of 2.3 mln tons. According to E. Kovtunov today MMK develops projects of Continuous Casting Unit 6 for Mill 500 and out-of –furnace steel treatment complex. Another MMK major project is manufacture of cold-rolled and galvanized sheets for the automotive industry reaching 2 mln tons a year.
