OMZ’s Izhorskiye Zavody Ships Steam Generator Frame for Novovoronezh-2 Nuclear Power Generating Unit
MOSCOW – Izhorskiye Zavody, a part of OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group) (RTS: OMZZ; LSE: OMZD; OTC: UHMVY), announced today that it has shipped the frame for a steam generator at the first power generating unit of Novovoronezh-2 Nuclear Power Plant. The project is part of the Federal Target Program for the Development of Russia’s Energy Sector. The 160-ton steam generator is 11.5 meters long and 4.5 meters in diameter.
Izhorskiye Zavody will manufacture eight steam generators for the second construction stage of Novovoronezh plant.
The company has also shipped eight collectors with over 140 tn aggregate weight for the second power unit of the plant.
A contract for production and supply of the equipment for Novovoronezh-2 Nuclear Power Plant has been signed in 2007. It provides for the production of two sets of basic equipment for a VVER-1150 reactor unit, the basic reactor unit intended for use in the NPP-2006 model reactor project. The equipment includes reactor vessels, steam generator frames, in-vessel components of more than 3,500 tn in total.
Currently two reactor vessels for the Novovoronezh project are being manufactured. Halves of the first reactor vessel are assembled for girth welding. Work on in-vessel components, pressure compensators and upper units is being held according to the contract terms. The reactor vessel is to be shipped in 1Q 2010. This will be the first nuclear reactor produced in Russia for a Russian nuclear power plant in 20 years, since the so-called “nuclear pause.”
