OMZ’s Izhorskiye Zavody Produces In-Vessel Components for Rostov Nuclear Power Unit
OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group) announced that Izhorskiye Zavody complete of in-vessel components produced for the second power unit of the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). The components include a pit, a reflection shield and protective pipes.
The equipment has successfully passed the inspection assembly and other testing. It will be shipped to the customer by the end of October.
The contract for the equipment was signed in December 2005. It will be concluded following shipping of in-vessel components.
Construction of the Rostov NPP started in 1979. By August 1990, the first power unit was 95% ready, and the second 20% ready. A temporary shut down of the project was ordered. In 1998 the construction was resumed. The first power unit was put into operation in 2001. The Federal Target Program for Development of Russia’s Nuclear Energy Complex for 2007-2015 provides for a third and fourth power units.
