Russia has realized production of new types of titanium tubes for aviation applications
Chepetsk Mechanical Plant (ChMZ, an enterprise of Rosatom's Fuel Division in Glazov, Republic of Udmurtia) has realized production of seven new nomenclatures of titanium alloy pipes for aviation pipeline systems. Such pipes with diameters from 6.35 mm to 31.75 mm and wall thicknesses from 0.4 mm to 1.3 mm were previously purchased by the Russian aviation industry from European suppliers.
By 2030, Chepetsk Mechanical Plant plans to produce about 100 kilometers of titanium pipes for hydraulic systems of domestic aircraft.
“In recent years, the Russian aircraft manufacturing market has faced an urgent need to replace foreign components with domestically manufactured products. Among the key missing components were titanium tubes, an important structural element of various aircraft systems. A new specialized production facility for titanium tubes for aviation was established at Chepetsk Mechanical Plant in response to requests from aircraft manufacturers. The project is being implemented as part of the import substitution program for critical components and materials that ensure the independence of domestic aircraft construction from foreign supplies. In 2025, we plan to quadruple the supply of titanium tubes for aviation as compared to 2023. This will provide the domestic market with aviation components of high quality that meet international safety standards, which is an important step in the development of the Russian aircraft industry and strengthening technological sovereignty,” said Andrey Andrianov, CEO of Rosatom MetalTech LLC (a specialized integrator company of the Fuel Division in the field of metallurgy).
