Electrometallurgy accounts for more than 30% of total steel production in Russia
The 20th International Forum “Scrap of Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals” was held in Moscow. Nikita Ryblenkov, Executive Secretary of Association of Electrometallurgical Enterprises, spoke at the strategic plenary session. He presented an analysis of the current state and prospects of development of the electrometallurgical industry in Russia.
Electrometallurgy accounts for more than 30% of the total volume of steel production in Russia. Smelting remains stable, and new production facilities are planned to be launched in 2025.
Nevertheless, electrometallurgists face a high financial burden:
- Steel excise tax;
- Export duties in 2024;
- Increase in income tax to 25% from 2025;
- Prohibitively high rates on investment loans.
Association is working with all involved government agencies to expand systemic support measures for electrometallurgy. “We are convinced: Russian metallurgy must remain global. The entire electrometallurgy industry should be transformed to create a sustainable chain from scrap collection to the creation of new unique products and infrastructure solutions in demand in Russia and the world,” Mr Ryblenkov said.
